Workshop : Let's Talk Technology and Tweens/Teens

How was gadget use over Holiday Break?  Need some tips on how to keep the tech use in check?

PSP Event: Let's Talk Technology and Tweens/Teens

Overwhelmed by all the news about what kids are doing online, on their phones, and on Instagram?
Do you feel like you’re way too far behind in the quest to get a grip on all of the social networking sites and apps your child is or might be using?
Do you need some reassurance about the whole digital social scene your child is navigating?  And most of all, do you want some perspective?

Come get some information, some perspective and some reassurance.   Katherine Fry, PhD, is a media studies professor and media literacy educator with years of experience teaching about and researching media, and working with young people in digital media literacy.   She will give you the picture, big and small, of the digital landscape, and will help you to understand what your child is doing and how you can understand and best support them and yourself as we all continue to grow into the digitally-connected environment.

When:             Wednesday, January 7, 2014
Time:               7 PM until 9 PM
Where:            Old Stone House, 336 3rd St ( 5th Ave) in Brooklyn, NY

 PSP Member : $25

Katherine G. Fry, PhD, Media Literacy Educator, will give us some much-needed information about how to manage our digital relationships.  She will help us understand what it means to grow up in a digitally-connected world.

Columbia University Science & Technology Entry Program

HomeWhat is STEPAcademic ActivitiesEnrichment ActivitiesParent CornerSummer ProgramHow to Apply

Summer Program

imageThe summer program for students in Grades 7 to 9 combines academic instruction with field trips to scientific, cultural, and educational sites.  In addition to visiting the planetarium and various museums throughout NYC, the group has visited the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC and the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. and Cape Cod, MA, for whale-watching.

Students in Grades 10 to 12 can participate in the Kaplan PSAT/SAT preparation course which is usually 12 sessions with a Kaplan instructor using Kaplan test materials.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Earn As You Learn Summer Job Program allows a select group of students enrolled in the program for a year or more to work in the dental clinic while taking classes during the July summer program.

Through a collaborative arrangement with the School of Continuing Education, a few high achieving students enrolled in the program for a year or more may be selected for scholarships to attend the Summer Program for High School Students on ColumbiaUniversity’s downtown campus.

How to Apply

imageNew students are admitted to the program twice a year, before the fall session and before the summer session.  It is recommended that students apply at the end of Grade 6.  But applications from students preparing to enter Grades 8 to 10 will be considered depending on space availability in these grades. We do not usually accept new students in Grades 11 or 12.

Student acceptance is based on application, recommendation from principal or guidance counselor, report card, and personal interview.  Students should download the application and take it to school to get it completed.

Fall Application Deadline: September 15
Summer Application Deadline: May 15

Completed applications should be mailed to
