Citywide High School FairThe Citywide High School Fair will be held on Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th from 10 am to 3 pm at Brooklyn Technical High School. Scholarship opportunity for graduates of public schools in the Bronx!

The Seinfeld Scholarship Program awards high school students who have achieved
academic excellence and committed themselves to community service.

Inspired to give back to the city they love, Jerry Seinfeld and his family
established The Seinfeld Scholarship Program in 2000. Since its inception, the
scholarship program has provided college scholarships to more than 190 public
school students throughout New York City.

Seinfeld Scholars receive a four-year scholarship to the college or university
of the student's choice. The Seinfeld Scholarship Program will cover up to
$10,000 of any unmet need the students have, including books, room and board,
tuition, etc. Recipients are also given personal support throughout the year, as
well as access to college prep programs, mentoring and service opportunities.

The program operates on a rotating basis. Each year, scholarships are awarded to
students who attend public schools in a specified borough of New York City.
Applicants for the 2012 program must be graduating in June 2012 from a New York
City public high school in the BRONX.

Below are important dates for students who are preparing to enter high school. Please be sure to check back regularly, as all dates are subject to change.

This two hour talk will prepare you for the NY High School Fair and tours in the fall. The Dept. of Education has many good programs and publications, but this talk is from the point of view of a parent who has been there and understands what you need to know and why. I am currently developing a second session just for kids, to address their concerns and talk turkey about the specific schools. Watch this space.

• I describe the process quickly and clearly without the deadly powerpoint used elsewhere.
• This talk is designed for families of college bound students.
• I give you a practical strategy to organized and manage the search.
• I help you understand how to interpret the data that is available.
• I give you resources to streamline your search.
• I give you tough love and options.
• I focus on what you need to know and when from a parent's point of view. 
• I give you a little advice on what the high school choice means for the college search.

I cover schools that would be a possible commute for students living in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Including Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens high schools.

More than 85 students from four high schools will perform at the Downtown Brooklyn High School Jazz Festival organized by the music program at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. Legendary jazz trumpeter Cecil Bridgewater—former sideman with Max Roach and Horace Silver—will perform as a special guest with the LIU Jazz Ensemble and serve as one of the judges at the free event in the Campus’ Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts.

The Brooklyn Campus is located on Flatbush Avenue, between DeKalb Avenue and Willougby Street. The event is free and open to the public.  

The bands participating in the festival are from Boys and Girls High School, Edward R. Murrow High School, Brooklyn High School for the Arts and the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts. 

At the close of the event, the music program will present each student with a certificate of participation and each band director with a plaque.

Supplementary Round Information Session Students who did not receive a match in the main round of the high school admissions process are invited to attend the Supplementary Round Information Session on Tuesday, April 5, from 6 - 9pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Educational Campus. School representatives and admissions counselors will be available to discuss high school options with students and their families. The supplementary round choice form is due back to guidance counselors by April 15.

New schools choice forms are due to guidance counselors on
February 28, 2011.

Millenium Brooklyn HS Applications due February 25

Application packet (including writing sample, essay, and report card) must be postmarked by Friday, February 25th - but the sooner the better! This seems like a great new school, and preference is given to Brooklyn students!


Millennium Brooklyn High School was founded in 2011, as a result of the communicated need for more high school seats for students residing in the 'Downtown Brooklyn' area seeking an accelerated education in their Borough. Millennium Brooklyn anticipates a total enrollment of approximately 450 students at full capacity. Teachers are available every day after school for extra help. An active Parent Association and School Leadership Team will ensure families further resources, initiate programs and raise funds to support them.

Millennium Brooklyn is a screened program. Criteria to be considered for admission to Millennium Brooklyn are:

* A minimum 90% average (for all core classes).
* 10 or fewer combined absences and late marks in grade 7.
* State standardized test scores at level 3 or 4 in grade 7.
* You must submit a portfolio which includes:

1. One writing sample of a graded English or History paper (will not be returned).
2. A one-page personal essay: Why do you want to be a part of a new school? What strengths do you think you can bring to a developing school community? (Must be typed.)
3. A copy of applicant's most recent 8th grade report card.

* Your child's name and middle school must be written on the front page of both the writing sample and essay.

An interview will be given to students who meet the above criteria.
