Summer Program | |
The summer program for students in Grades 7 to 9 combines academic instruction with field trips to scientific, cultural, and educational sites. In addition to visiting the planetarium and various museums throughout NYC, the group has visited the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC and the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. and Cape Cod, MA, for whale-watching.
Students in Grades 10 to 12 can participate in the Kaplan PSAT/SAT preparation course which is usually 12 sessions with a Kaplan instructor using Kaplan test materials.
SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Earn As You Learn Summer Job Program allows a select group of students enrolled in the program for a year or more to work in the dental clinic while taking classes during the July summer program.
Through a collaborative arrangement with the School of Continuing Education, a few high achieving students enrolled in the program for a year or more may be selected for scholarships to attend the Summer Program for High School Students on ColumbiaUniversity’s downtown campus.
How to Apply | |
New students are admitted to the program twice a year, before the fall session and before the summer session. It is recommended that students apply at the end of Grade 6. But applications from students preparing to enter Grades 8 to 10 will be considered depending on space availability in these grades. We do not usually accept new students in Grades 11 or 12.
Student acceptance is based on application, recommendation from principal or guidance counselor, report card, and personal interview. Students should download the application and take it to school to get it completed.
