Executive Functioning Tutor Help

These reviews come from members of the PoNYTYA community.

Join us at main@PoNYTYA.groups.io | Home

I wanted to share that we started getting my 14 year old Executive Functioning coaching through the ADHD Training Center. She was diagnosed with ADHD almost a year ago and homework definitely was the hardest time of the day for all of us. The coach works with her every day for 15-30 minutes via FaceTime and helps her organize her time and workload. It’s made our lives so much easier because we’re not arguing about homework now. I still log into check google classroom and the other portals but by the time I do that she’s already completed her assignments after discussing them with her coach.

I hope once she develops the skills to manage her homework / studying then we can move onto other things like managing time and organization.

Jen Genal! I love her! She’s worth every penny!

Gaby is an educational consultant and executive function coach. She has worked with our daughter and is great.

My child has loved and benefited a great deal from their tutor at Brooklyn Learning Center, through their homework therapy program. It’s an amazing combination of skills that is just right for my child, and our insurance covers it as out of network therapy.

Sex Ed for Tweens & Teens

These are replies from members about sex ed programming available for their kids :

Ekem Merchant-Bleiberg did a PTA-paid Heath/Sex Ed multi-week residency for 7th and 8th graders at my kids’ small public middle school. She was amazing. Did workshops for parents as well, and was flexible and able to design a thoughtful program that the PTA could afford. I’m not sure how much availability she has, but she is such a great educator.

********************

I recommend Rachel Lotus. My son’s class had a series of zoom class with her during Covid and I had the opportunity to listen in.   Very age appropriate and engaging.

********************

Rachel Lotus is best in class. My daughter has been in classes with her since 7th grade, and my son took a class with her in 4th grade.

********************

Seconding Rachel Lotus! She was absolutely FABULOUS! Not only did she do an incredible job with the kids; she also gave an awesome workshop for the parents. The conversations inspired by her visits were terrific and my daughter (and all of the kids) just absolutely loved her. So positive, so direct, so comfortable and pragmatic...she was truly an inspiration. The kids loved her with good reason.

********************

********************

Justine Ang Fonte: https://www.justinefonte.com/

Both are excellent. It might be difficult to schedule either one for time in the remainder of the current school year--they both book up really early (like the summer before) but worth asking.

********************
Kate Greenberg

She has done puberty workshops for 5th graders and MS in our school (NEST+m). She is engaging and professional.
As part of the service (I suspect it was organized by PTA) an hour long presentation was given to parents/guardians prior to workshops.
It was offered for each grade and included a generous Q&A segment along with PDF presentation f materials that would be part of student workshops.

Rock n Roll Retreat NYC

Rock n Roll Retreat NYC!, a weeklong music and social justice program for girls, trans, and nonbinary youth ages 10-16 in New York City. I have been helping to organize Rock n Roll Retreat NYC!’s first ever camp session this summer and I’m super excited about their programming, and the fact that they're founded and led by NYC young people who are themselves alums of similar camps here and elsewhere.

Rock n Roll Retreat NYC! is a small music mentorship and social justice summer program aimed at empowering girls and trans youth living in New York City. Our programming is a week-long intensive where youth take workshops, learn instruments, form bands, and write original songs, culminating in a showcase where campers perform for their communities. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the camp and showcase this summer will be online, although future camps will be in-person. Campers will be provided all materials needed for camp, including instruments, workshop materials, and even snacks, because everyone who wants to rock out should have the chance! The camp itself is in a “pay what you can” model, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Their camper application is available here, and you can also find it in Spanish here. If you would like to learn more about their programming, please visit their website at rocknrollretreatnyc.com or check out their instagram @rocknrollretreatnyc !

Webinar : Insight into Adolescence: The Covid Edition.

Dr. Michael Davidovits is back!  He's one of PSP's trusted experts in child and adolescent psychology, and he's here to give us much-needed insight into our tweens and teens through the filter of this challenging year.

Join PSP and Dr. Davidovits on Thursday, April 22nd @ 7:30pm for Insight into Adolescence: The Covid Edition.

So much has changed after a year of remote schooling, lockdowns, and social isolation, Dr. Davidovits will help us understand normal adolescent development and what may have been altered by the experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Among the questions we will discuss are:
  • What is the spectrum of "normal" adolescent behavior vs what we are seeing now?
  • What are appropriate and realistic expectations and limits for parents to set at this time?
  • How do we support our teens who are struggling with social isolation, exhibiting more anxiety and depression, and are more obsessed than ever with online engagement?
  • We’ve spent much more time with our tweens and teens than in non-quarantine times. How can we take a step back and get some perspective?
  • How do we deal with our kid's provocations and anxiety-provoking experimentation in light of all they've been through this year?
What:    Insight into Adolescence: The Covid Edition
When:   Thursday, April 22nd
Time:     7:30pm - 8:30pm
Cost:     $30.00/members & $35.00/non-members**
The zoom link for this event will be sent out 24 - 48 hours before the event.

** Park Slope Parents wants everyone to be able to attend our informational webinars. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please email us: events@parkslopeparents.com

Join PSP for a night of insight with Dr. Michael Davidovits,  Assistant Director of the Project for Adolescents and their Families at the Ackerman Institute.

Our goals? Gaining an understanding of the cognitive, emotional, and physical changes in early adolescence and adolescence and the effect that Covid has had on those changes. Exploring strategies to help us stay connected while getting more comfortable with our child's greater need for independence. Learning to manage our stress over our stressed-out teens!

NIP IT IN THE BUD: AN EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM TO HELP ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS QUIT VAPING AND TOBACCO USE

THE NEW YORK CENTER FOR LIVING LAUNCHES NIP IT IN THE BUD:

AN EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM TO HELP ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS QUIT VAPING AND TOBACCO USE

In a partnership with The American Lung Association’s N-O-T Not On Tobacco® program, New York Center for Living is launching its virtual Nip it in the Bud program this Tuesday, April 13. The program will provide options, resources and support to quit for good!

Nip it in the Bud is an education and support program to help adolescents and young adults quit vaping and tobacco use. It helps clients develop a plan that guides them on their quit journey. They will also receive the support they need to remain vape-free and tobacco-free for life! This cycle in particular is available to adolescents ages 13-18.

In this virtual 5-week (10 session) program, they cover the following topics: reasons to quit, why you smoke or vape, myths from “big tobacco,” nicotine addiction and triggers, effects of smoking and vaping, how to quit, overcoming obstacles to quitting, how to deal with stress, and staying committed to quitting.

This cycle will kick-off on Tuesday, April 13 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with a presentation from Dr. Steven Dewey and an orientation with the NYCFL team. The cycle will then begin on Thursday, April 15 and meet virtually every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 - 7 p.m. through May 18. This program has been generously underwritten through donations to keep cost to a minimum at $500 for the full 10-session cycle.

Interested families can contact NYCFL by calling (212) 712-8800, emailing info@centerforliving.org, or by filling out this interest form. They will have additional cycles in the future, so we encourage you to fill out the interest form even if these cycle dates don’t work for you.

It’s time to Nip it in the Bud.
