Summer 2011 Student Historians
The New-York Historical Society is currently accepting applications for the Summer 2011 Student Historian Internship program. Applicants must be available to intern Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 4:45 PM for the entire length of the program, which runs from Tuesday, July 5 to Thursday, August 11. Applications are due by 5 PM on Friday, April 29.

The New-York Historical Society high school internship program is open to students who meet ALL of the following qualifications:
- You are enrolled in a high school in grades 10, 11, or 12 in the tri-state area.
- You have the consent of your parent/guardian to apply for this program.
- You have (or can obtain by the start of the program) valid working papers. For complete information about obtaining working papers, visit http://www.labor.state.ny.us/workerprotection/laborstandards/workprot/wphmpg.shtm.
- AND you have all documents necessary to be employed in the United States for the duration of the internship (applicants are responsible for the cost of procuring any documentation related to seeking employment in the United States).
To apply, the following must be submitted:
- The application form should be typed by the applicant and emailed as a Word document or pdf to Betsy Gibbons at betsy.gibbons@nyhistory.org using the subject line “High School Internship Application.”
- Two recommendation forms should be completed by the recommenders and emailed to Betsy Gibbons at betsy.gibbons@nyhistory.org OR faxed to her attention at 212-721-7647. One recommender must be a teacher; the other may be a second teacher or another adult outside of your family who knows you well (supervisor, mentor, etc.).
Deadline: April 29, 2011
Applications that do not follow instructions or that are incomplete as of 5 PM on Friday, April 29 will not be accepted. If you do not have a computer at home, please plan ahead to use one at school or at your local public library. Applicants being considered for the internship will be contacted for an interview in mid-May. Thank you for your application.
