Applications for New York City’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Available Beginning Monday, March 3
City residents ages 14-24 have until Friday, April 25 to apply for lottery
New York, NY – New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Commissioner Bill Chong announced that DYCD will accept applications for the 2014 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) from Monday, March 3 through Friday, April 25, 2014. SYEP, the nation’s largest summer youth employment initiative, provides New York City young people between the ages of 14 and 24 with up to six weeks of entry-level experience at worksites in all five boroughs. The application does not guarantee placement; participants are selected by lottery for the program.
Youth can apply online or at a participating community-based organization during the application period. Online applications are available at the DYCD website (www.nyc.gov/dycd), or call DYCD Youth Connect at 1-800-246-4646 or 311 for more information. Updates will also be posted to DYCD’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/nycyouth) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/nycyouth) sites.
Worksites interested in participating have until Friday, May 16, 2014 to apply. For more information, contact Youth Connect at 1-800-246-4646 or 311.
SYEP participants are paid minimum wage to work at thousands of diverse worksites, including government agencies, hospitals, summer camps, nonprofits, small businesses, law firms, museums, sports enterprises and retail. SYEP also provides workshops on job readiness, career exploration and financial literacy, and opportunities to continue education and social growth. Specialized programming for disabled, foster care, runaway/homeless and court-involved young people are also available. Ladders for Leaders is an employer-paid internship component of SYEP for youth aged 16-24.
Last year, nearly 36,000 young New Yorkers were employed at more than 6,800 worksites during July and August, and assisted in the cleanup and recovery from Superstorm Sandy.

March 10 - HS Choice: Calm and Clear Talk
nyc public high school choice: calm and clear
Sorry no walk ins.
TICKET PURCHASE/RSVP REQUIRED.
This talk translates the DOE's "script" describing how the process actually works, talking about the data available and how to manage and organize it. Also, you get my list of approx. 70 programs that are interesting possibilities for college bound kids from Brooklyn and Manhattan. It will prepare you for the NY High School Fair, tours and choices in the fall.
- I describe the process quickly and clearly without the deadly powerpoint used elsewhere.
- This talk is designed for families of college bound students.
- I give you a practical strategy to organize and manage the search.
- I help you understand how to interpret the data that is available.
- I give you resources to streamline your search and cull the giant directory.
- I focus on what you need to know and when from a parent's point of view.
- I give you a little practical advice on what the high school choice means for the college search.
I will do my best to help you laugh in the face of adversity.
I cover schools that would be a possible commute for students living in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Including Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens high schools.

Just wanted to say thank you again for the incredible seminar you gave last night on high school admissions. I walked into it knowing absolutely nothing about the process and truly frightened by the idea of it.
And now I have a firm handle on how to proceed finding the right school for my son.
It is all thanks to you, you were so clear and concise!
I truly appreciate it, it was invaluable.- 8th grade mom
