My son didn't do well in Math in high school did not like it (since 7th grade). Then he got to college (Colby, now Northwestern) and realized he wanted to take a class for which Calculus was a pre-requisite. Enter Zachary, who totally prepared him to take Calc., and helped him along the way. Theo felt so much more confident about his Math ability with Zachary whose mellow nature beautifully aligned with my son's.

My daughter struggled with math starting in 5th grade. When she began working with William he was able to diagnose her issues which included lack of confidence, plus, she didn’t know her multiplication tables. After just a few sessions he built her confidence and she developed a love for math, which continues to today. She is now a college freshman and over the years she has checked in with William as needed for refreshers. She had a couple of phone sessions with William to prep for the SAT and got almost a perfect math score. She had a lot of difficulty with calculus and worked with William again and is now getting straight A’s. She sometimes calls or texts William with a question and he gets back to her immediately.
Would you recommend this tutor to other parents for their children? Yes I highly recommend him and have heard excellent feedback from parents and students in the past

I believe the tutor must have knowledge of the subject matter but also the right patience and instincts to get through to the student. As mentioned, my child’s struggle with math was rooted in a loss of confidence and “learned helplessness” once the confidence was back learning the material was not only possible but easy!

My daughter was really struggling with chemistry; despite going for extra help with her teacher...she just wasn't getting instruction that made sense to her. Jackie is a retired high-school chemistry teacher, and she was able to present the information in a way that finally made sense my daughter. She loves Jackie. Jackie is funny and lighthearted and has really boosted my daughter's confidence in this subject.

Jamie is an old friend who is now a college admissions consultant. He's helping my daughter (and our family) navigate college admissions. He knows about schools we might not have known about. He is through and attentive. He teaches in a very calm manner and organized. He is definitely good at tutoring and my son learned test taking skills and subjects matters as well. Math was particularly beneficial for my son.

Highly recommend Ian for tutoring, he is the best! He can easily connect with students through his approachable style. While building skills, he improves confidence. He adapts his approach to the students needs & learning styles. He improved my child's relationship with her math teacher by suggesting questions to ask the teacher, teaching beyond the curriculum to build in depth knowledge and help her develop advanced math skills. My hard to please kid LIKED working with him, no complaints ever. He can tutor on many subjects, not just Math. He has a BS in Math from University of Chicago and has tutored for 7 years.

Aaron helped my 10th grader towards the end of the school year. He is patient and understanding of my non-science-oriented kid. He created sample questions, reviewed exams to figure out where my son was getting confused, and spent time analyzing the way my son learns so that he could better help him.

Jonathan was able to elicit what her passions are and while they were hard to describe, he helped her put her thoughts into a draft and then through revisions get her college essays to where it needed to be without doing the work for her. She couldn't have crafted her essays without his steady guidance. I was nervous that we had started too late but he reassured me the deadlines would get hit and they did!

Jonathan is mellow, not excitable, and very, very capable. My son was working with another admissions person and ended up feeling dispirited because the person was basically telling him what to write and what not to (my son was committed to one idea). Jonathan helped him hone HIS ideas, not put other ideas into his head. Theo got into a solid number of small liberal arts colleges. But over the course of the year, he decided he missed being in a city too much, so he applied again and ended up in his top choice, with a little help from Jonathan.
Would you recommend this tutor to other parents for their children? :
Jonathan's not for everyone -- though maybe he varies his style. If your kid doesn't like being told what to do and has ideas, Jonathan is GREAT. I believe my son became a better writer with Jonathan's limited help.

There are all kinds of approaches to college essays. Have a chat with you kid (and use what you know about them as learners) to seek out someone. You can really get the vibe with that initial call/ zoom. Also, talk with a reference. (I'm happy to say more about how J. worked -- or ask my son to talk with your kid)

Helen connected well with my son right away. She works well with neurodiverse kids, and meets them where they are on a wide variety of material. She went to St. John's College in Santa Fe which has a rigorous liberal arts and science education which I think might account for some of how dynamic and adaptive her thought process is. She's also funny, nice, and great to be around.

He’s gotten expensive but I so easy to work with. My kids can be resistant to working with tutors - and getting their work done (procrastination much!?) but they appreciated Simon’s chill vibe and really stepped up for him. Simon graduated from Yale in 2014 with a B.A. in English Literature (honors, natch). He especially enjoys working with students on their writing, including
college application essays, but he helped my daughter with her regular high school subjects. In the last few years, Simon's college
