Rock n Roll Retreat NYC
Rock n Roll Retreat NYC!, a weeklong music and social justice program for girls, trans, and nonbinary youth ages 10-16 in New York City. I have been helping to organize Rock n Roll Retreat NYC!’s first ever camp session this summer and I’m super excited about their programming, and the fact that they're founded and led by NYC young people who are themselves alums of similar camps here and elsewhere.
Rock n Roll Retreat NYC! is a small music mentorship and social justice summer program aimed at empowering girls and trans youth living in New York City. Our programming is a week-long intensive where youth take workshops, learn instruments, form bands, and write original songs, culminating in a showcase where campers perform for their communities. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the camp and showcase this summer will be online, although future camps will be in-person. Campers will be provided all materials needed for camp, including instruments, workshop materials, and even snacks, because everyone who wants to rock out should have the chance! The camp itself is in a “pay what you can” model, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Their camper application is available here, and you can also find it in Spanish here. If you would like to learn more about their programming, please visit their website at rocknrollretreatnyc.com or check out their instagram @rocknrollretreatnyc !

Webinar : Insight into Adolescence: The Covid Edition.
Dr. Michael Davidovits is back! He's one of PSP's trusted experts in child and adolescent psychology, and he's here to give us much-needed insight into our tweens and teens through the filter of this challenging year.
Join PSP and Dr. Davidovits on Thursday, April 22nd @ 7:30pm for Insight into Adolescence: The Covid Edition.
So much has changed after a year of remote schooling, lockdowns, and social isolation, Dr. Davidovits will help us understand normal adolescent development and what may have been altered by the experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Among the questions we will discuss are:
- What is the spectrum of "normal" adolescent behavior vs what we are seeing now?
- What are appropriate and realistic expectations and limits for parents to set at this time?
- How do we support our teens who are struggling with social isolation, exhibiting more anxiety and depression, and are more obsessed than ever with online engagement?
- We’ve spent much more time with our tweens and teens than in non-quarantine times. How can we take a step back and get some perspective?
- How do we deal with our kid's provocations and anxiety-provoking experimentation in light of all they've been through this year?
When: Thursday, April 22nd
Time: 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Cost: $30.00/members & $35.00/non-members**
** Park Slope Parents wants everyone to be able to attend our informational webinars. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please email us: events@parkslopeparents.com
Join PSP for a night of insight with Dr. Michael Davidovits, Assistant Director of the Project for Adolescents and their Families at the Ackerman Institute.
Our goals? Gaining an understanding of the cognitive, emotional, and physical changes in early adolescence and adolescence and the effect that Covid has had on those changes. Exploring strategies to help us stay connected while getting more comfortable with our child's greater need for independence. Learning to manage our stress over our stressed-out teens!

In

is launching its virtual Nip it in
the Bud program this Tuesday,
April 13. The program will provide options, resources and support to quit
for good!
Nip it in
the Bud
is an education and support program to help adolescents and young adults quit
vaping and tobacco use. It helps clients develop a plan that guides them on
their quit journey. They will also receive the support they need to remain
vape-free and tobacco-free for life! This cycle in particular is available to
adolescents ages 13-18.
In this virtual
5-week (10 session) program, they
cover the following topics: reasons to quit, why you smoke or vape, myths from
“big tobacco,” nicotine addiction and triggers, effects of smoking and vaping,
how to quit, overcoming obstacles to quitting, how to deal with stress, and
staying committed to quitting.
This cycle will kick-off on Tuesday, April 13 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with a presentation from Dr.
Steven Dewey and an orientation with the NYCFL team. The cycle will then begin
on Thursday, April 15 and meet virtually every Tuesday and Thursday from
6 - 7 p.m. through May 18. This program has been generously underwritten
through donations to keep cost to a minimum at $500 for the full 10-session
cycle.
Interested families can contact NYCFL by calling
(212) 712-8800, emailing info@centerforliving.org, or by filling out this interest form. They will have additional cycles
in the future, so we encourage you to fill out the interest form even if these cycle dates don’t
work for you.

This spring, Green-Wood Cemetery is proud to once again present Bridge to Crafts Careers, a paid training program in masonry restoration, in partnership with Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow.
This is an incredible opportunity for New Yorkers between the ages of 18 and 27 to acquire the skills to pursue a career in masonry, construction, and the union trades.
Virtual info sessions for potential candidates will be held on February 16th and 22nd and March 1st and 8th. We hope to see you there! For more information or to register for information session contact Joan St. John at jstjohn@obtjobs.org
The 10-week paid Masonry Restoration Technician Training Program begins April 12, 2021. Interns selected by Green-Wood and OBT will learn how to care for historic structures made of marble, granite, and brownstone—a highly sought after skill in today’s market. A Green-Wood mausoleum will be utilized as the foundation for the training. The mission of this program is to prepare participants for entry-level construction positions in stone restoration and associated trades. This unique initiative is a collaboration between OBT, Green-Wood, World Monuments Fund, and the International Masonry Institute.
